80 years of Swissair
This would be the 80th birthday of Swissair.

October 10th 2010

Various additions & corrections
-updated the fleet section, where i've added new information about the whereabouts of the ex-SR airplanes
-corrected various spelling mistakes throughout the site.
-changed the picture galleries in the marketing section so that the clicking on an item opens up a new window.

added around 250 pictures to the miscellaneous and fleet sections.

February 6th 2009

Miscellaneous section done
Done the Miscellaneous Section. Therefore added around 2'500 (!!) new images of various Swissair Stuff.
In the Memorabilia Sub-section you can find all kinds of Swissair give-aways, presents etc etc.
In the printed matters sub-section you can now see all the Swissair Gazette's front covers, many different timetables, postcards, calendars, tickets, routemaps and books.
In the stuff on Board section you'll see different things such as safety on board cards, toiletries, menue cards, tableware etc etc.
Also, there's a philately sub-section where many pictures of first flight covers, stamps featuring Swissair aircraft, etc are shown.

February 1st 2009

Design section done
After re-doing the Part with all the logos and finally completing the page with all Swissair uniforms the design section is now complete. If you have any further info and/or pictures of Swissair uniforms please send a mail with the info via 'contact us'.

New items
Added around 500 new itmes such as pictures of aircraft, ads, flyers etc and done many small changes, corrections and enhancements to the site in the last couple months.

TAP Air Portugal
I've worked on the Qualiflyer section. Now the infos about TAP Air Portugal are complete. Specially interesting is the fleet section wich contains all the aircrafts that the portuguese national carrier flew in its over 60 years of existence.

Booking
Today I have added a new booking facility. You can now book your flight online via swissair.aero. By doing so, you'll not only get the cheapest flight for your destination and travel dates, but you'll also support swissair.aero.
The booking is done via an affiliate program, and the partner is cheaptickets.de. There's still some tweaks to be done such as the language that suddenly changes to german etc, but nevertheless i hope you'll all book your flights via swissair.aero from now on! In the long run, i will also replace the Google-ads from the site, as they have not proven to be very successful

Qualiflyer.org
Since many people come to Swissair.aero via www.Qualiflyer.org i decided to design a new Qualiflyer entry-site. Until now the Qualiflyer site was not really 'working' together with the main site, but this has now been changed. All links from within Qualiflyer.org should now work, and the page itself is in a similiar layout as swissair.aero and the former oficial Qualiflyer website. So far, the page is still an empty 'shell', with no real information on the airlines yet. I will try to do some of them during my next vacation, so stay tuned until after easter...

BAD NEWS: ads on site
After informing myself a bit about ways to pay the bills for swissair.aero i looked a bit deeper into Google Ads. My goal is to make around 150$ per year, which would pay almost all of the bills for the domains and webspace of the page. So for now i put up 6 Google ads on the site, two on the main page, 1 on the Qualiflyer section (or on www.qualiflyer.org) and 3 into the fleet section.
Don't worry, you will still be able to see the single aircraft pages etc without ads, so far i am only targeting the 'main' sites. I have no idea yet how profitable it is, it might not be worth it at all, and then i will remove the ads again. On the other hand, it would really be nice if I get the invested money back, this would definitely spur my enthusiasm and i would do more work on the site :) So if any if the sponsored links interest you, you know what to do...

BTW, this is how these ads look like:

Miscellaneous section started, Marketing finished
After finishing the previously mentioned Fleets of Crossair, Balair and SR Photo, I have started the Miscellaneous section. So far only a couple of pages are done, it is mostly still work in progress. Done are the part for the awards, shares, aircraft models and Swissair expositions. Also, the 'Flyers' in the Marketing section are done, finishing this part as well.

Fleets of Balair, Crossair and Swissair Photo added
Just spent another 3 weeks in the swiss military and got a chance to work on the site... The complete fleets of Swissair subsidiaries Crossair and Balair were added. So has the fleet of Swissair Photo. Also, many small changes have been done and around 100 new pictures of the fleet and 50 new ads etc added. The site is now made up of more than 13'500 single files in more than 250 directories displayed on over 400 HTML Files with a total size exceeding 1GB (which is a lot for a website...)!

Qualiflyer section started & other improvements
I have started the Qualiflyer section, but this will be work in progress for quite some time now... I have put up the main pages and some info on the frequent flyer programme already, but the detailed info about all the associated airlines will follow when ready...
Furthermore the Home-site has been considerably improved, with the correct sections mentioned and with some tips on how to navigate the site at the bottom.
Also, i removed the nedstat counter, as this was only creating pop-ups and not delivering any value anymore.

Search function added
I have added a search function which searches Swissair.aero (or more correctly: sr692.com) and Crossair.org for your search terms. It's not yet working properly due to some recent changes in the file structure, but should work within the regular 'google-update' times...
Also, i have removed the nedstat counter which brought annoying pop-ups... I hope these won't come anymore now!

Small Updates
No big news, many small things adjusted, some further posters, aircraft photos and a personal story added.
Today was the first day of the trial against former Swissair managers... Let's wait to see what the outcome is.

Marketing, About, Personal Stories
Another big step forward! I just spent the last 3.5 Weeks in swiss military service and had the chance to work around 10h per day on the site... So another 180 hours of manpower invested... And the result: apart from small updates, changes, corrections all over the site, I have finally done another big part of swissair.aero. If you go to the marketing section you will be able to look at more than 1000 posters and advertisements from Swissair all over their livespan from the 30's up to 2001. Still missing are the 'Flyer' section and the 'tv commercials' sections which I hopefully be able to do soon.

Also new are the about and the personal stories section. While I tell you about the purpose of this site in the first one, you are invited to participate in the second one! Send me your story about Swissair, and what you did to become part of the Swissair family and to get interested enough to find this site.

Fleet Update
I've updated the fleet sections. Many aircraft have already changed owners during the last years. Specially TAP Portugal has taken over a lot of ex-Swissair planes, A330's, A319's, A320's and A321's!!
Also, one of the now THY A320's has gotten a special Livery! Well, other than that, i've only made some minor improvements/adjustements on the site..

Swissair.aero
After not getting swissair.com (which still belongs to Swiss International Air Lines) and swissair.ch which is an amateur fotographers website, I decided to go for www.swissair.aero. The Adress www.sr692.com will continue to work, since this is the 'codename' of this project, however I am not sure yet, if I will prolong the sw.issair.com and www.sw.issair.com domains... Go for swissair.aero in the future!

Crossair history
The history of Crossair has been added in the history section.
Thanks to Thomas Meyer and the Webmaster of higly recommendable crossair.org on this one!

Few Updates
I have been moving, and therefore been rather busy in the last couple of weeks. Not many Updates have been done therefore. I have added some single pictures and informations across the site, but nothing big worth mentioning.

wikipedia - and lots of visitors
Someone linked this site to both the english and german versions of wikipedia. If you search for swissair or related words, you will come up with a link to this site. Therefore traffic has increased significantly in the last couple of weeks. Around 30 different visitors come to this site daily. Also, the guestbook and forum finally get to see some action...

Liveries
The liveries in the marketing / design section as well as the 'destination logos' were done.
Also, I've created a new logo for Swissair's 75th birthday, which will displayed around the site. You might try hovering over the mountain on the left side, and see what happens :-)

Well, finally after some long time (you know, christmas presents etc...) I've done some updates for the site. Mainly small stuff. Also, the SAirGroup section has been updated, and is now almost done...
By the way, i've been getting lots of hits in the last couple of days, so I decided to finally do some more for the page...
